Back to reality

Hi there after (unfortunately just) 2 weeks of travelling I'm back in Whistler to say good-bye and take all my bags. In around 24 h I'm already on the plane back to Switzerland...
The weeks I had were amazing. I could talk a lot about it, but I know you are more interested in pictures which you have to wait for until I'm back at home..
Alright, thanks for reading my blog for those who did and see you soon!

Another life sign...

Hi folks. Yes I`m still alive. It has been ages since I last wrote a post here.. A lot happened since february. Here a little summary:

All in all I had a great winter season. For Canadians this season was one of the worst (no snow...) but for me it was my best. The snow came later in the season and I had had great powder days. Still on the 13 of April we had a snow dump and rode powder before the slushy spring season started. (Pictures will arrive soon. My macbook got broken unfortunately that`s why it`s difficult for me to upload pictures or even communicate in emails or facebook)
I also finished my school. I graduated on the 3rd of April. Afterwards finally I didn`t have to go to school at night so I could enjoy the sun on out patio after a day on the mountain. The last month we had awesome days on the slushy runs in t-shirts. The temperatures raised and everybody was longing for spring and summer.
As the snow began to melt down in the valley we could start the bbq-season. The first one especially was amazing. We found a private place next to a lake which was still frozen and cooked our sausages on the fire.
From the 17th until the 26th of April the Telus Ski & Snowboard Festival took place in the village. There were a lot of Contests (Half-pipe, Slopestyle, BigAir...) and everyday free concerts outside on the stage. It was a nice festival even though I was sick for almost the whole time took medicine instead of alcohol whereas sometimes a good "schnaps" can also kill the bacteria in one`s throat. :-)
On the first of May we all had to move out of our house in Bayshores. (Some people alreadly left before..) After the stress which occurs normally when leaving a house especially when your are the house manager I took the bus to Vancouver.
Today on the 3rd of May I`ll leave Vancouver to travel to the Rockies. I have about two weeks to travel before my plane leaves Canada on the 19th of May to Switzerland.
I`ll travel to the Rockies spend some days there in the mountains. Afterwards I`m going to take a train which brings me almost to the other end of Canada, Toronto. The journey takes about 3 days and I`ll be able to see a lot from this country.
Then I`m staying some days in Toronto before I fly back to Vancouver to take my baggage and go home.. :-)

That`s it so far. Greets Moritz
ps: I hope everybody of you is doing well.

Comeback on the runs!

Hello everybody, time to write a post: Exactly one week ago i had my comeback on the runs and since then life here in Whistler makes more sense again. :-) 3 weeks of hanging around is firstly not good for your body and secondly boring.. So this Monday i had physiotherapy and my therapist was happy with my back so she told me i could try some green runs (the easiest runs). Of course i went directly afterwards to the mountain to see how it goes. The first runs looked probably if I were a beginner snowboarder. I was riding so cautiously but run after run i recovered (zurückerlangen) my skills. The next we went riding and had an awesome powder day. A hike of 20 minutes offered us some nice lines, couloirs and tree runs.
The next 5 days i've worked in the Snowboard School. A lot of differents kids all from school classes from Vancouver. It's good that it's so busy now because i can definitely need the money but on my 5th day of teaching the motivation decreased significantly (what a scientific expression :-))
In other words i was a little bit pissed on my last days of working especially i had this sort of kids who wants to go to the park the whole time and keep asking about this and that.
But next I have just two days of work so I'm looking forward to that!
Alright that's all I wanted to say! Take care, Moritz

Ski Jumping

Hi guys, last Saturday we went to the ski jumping event close to Whistler. A 20-minute cab ride brought us to the 140 long jump. Armed with some little swiss flags and a hot chocolate (it was -10 degres) we watched the competition. Even though we cheered Simon Amman on as much as we could he hadn't had his best day and lost his first place in the ranking.. It was impressive to see the jumps but after a couple it became boring. Why don't they make spins or backflips... :-) Would be much more interesting. I rather watch snowboard events.. :-)
Today there's also the Australian Day. That's a big event in Whistler too because there are about 60 % Australians here. Today's gonna be a bbq and drinking day, i guess. :-)
Furthermore i just came back from the physiotherapist. It's now alreaday the second week at home, but my back fells much more better. Hope i can go riding soon. :-)
'ight, take care! greets moritz

I'm flying high!
Where is the other swiss guy?
Oh, here he is, looks so dozy, not in a good condition to jump 140 m... But we still believe in you, go simi! :-)

Shit happened

to me... unfortunately. Just 3 days after i was recovered i went riding. (The was last Monday the 12th) The sun was shining after one week of rain (!) in the village, the snow was good and therefore i was quite motivated - maybe a bit too much. The night before we had an awesome session in our backyard snowboardpark. I finally learned how to do fs boardslides for those who know what that is. :-) So i wanted to try them in the terrain park. After one warm-up run i went to the park and on the second jump i fell. Right on the jump the nose of my snowboard slid away and thus my position was so askew (there are 33 translations for "schräg"... :-)) that i fell with my back on the table, that's the flat area before the landing. I couldn't breathe anymore for a moment and felt a stabbing pain. I knew that i couldn't ride anymore and that my day was over. So to make the most of the situation i went to restaurant and enjoyed the nice view with a hot chocolate. After i downloaded with the gondola (funny expression isnt' it?) i hobbled home and felt that it's more serious than i assumed. I went to the hospital the next day and it turned out that i have a musle contuison on the muscles right next to the spine. (Muskelprellung) I was lucky that i didn't injure my spine or the intervertebral discs (Bandscheiben) but it's annoying anyway.
Since this Monday i spent all the days without doing a lot of sport or movement. Unfortunately i was sunny the whole week and everybody was riding exept me. Well, shit happens..
Tomorrow i have an apointment with the physiotherapist and hope that i can go riding soon. Until then i keep on watching movies, playing tichu online (:-)), learning english or making small walks or hikes.
OK, not it's time to do sth. It's 2 o'clock in the afternoon and i'm sitting still in front of my computer with the Dul-X on my back. :-) Take care guys outthere and see you soon! Greetings, Moritz

Happy New Year

Hey Happy New Year, even if it's a little bit delayed.. :-) I hope you all slid well into the new year (i hoffe dir sit guet überegrütscht). I definitely did, almost with my snowboard on a box. But let me start some hours ago..
For this great evening we all went to another house and celebrated there. Everybody who lives here does that. Houseparty is hip! The clubs were incredible expensive, only the tourist go there. Furthermore all the police is in the village so all around you can do what ever you want. We had a nice dinner there, a friend who lives there made about 8 kilogramms of "härdöpfu-gratin" and because he works in a restaurant he could get a lot of free burgers. Furthermore we had a awesome snowbar and a little backyard snowboard park. Instead of snowboarding i prefered the camera and took some shots. I considered that after some drinks i might be a bit dangerous i hit yourself over the rail.
All together it was a nice night even though we almost forgot the countdown.. :-) Do avoid problems with finding the right bus which drives you home i decided to sleep there and return the next morning which was a good decision in the end.. After a couple of hours sleep we all went to the mountain for some runs before the last bit of energy was used and we all went for a long, long sleep.
Because we are not bears we couldn't sleep for the whole winter and had to wake up some day. I worked one more day before the holiday period was over and it's a little bit more quiet now in the village. For once i didn't have to teach beginner. I had a level 6 instead so i could go riding like with friends and teach him how to do ollies and that kind of stuff.
Then unfortunately i sickened and was knocked out for the last 4 days. Now i feel better especially because i just had a cosy bath in the tub.. :-)
That's for now, buddies. Wish you all a pleasant time. Cheers, Moritz

The awesome snow-bar with grill, of course
Setup of our little backyardpark. Soon there will be more!
Japanese frontside boardslide, yeah.
